Ulster Provincial Rugby Football Club features as another of the Irish provincial
sides along with Connaught, Leinster and Munster. These are the sides that will
provide the Irish entries into the European Cup competitions and they will supply
the bulk of the Irish international squad. The club was formed in 1879 and although
based in Belfast and therefore part of the British Isles it is considered as
an Irish side with some feeder clubs from south of the border.
Irish Provincial Rugby Club Ulster
Ulster play their home games at the 12,000 capacity Ravenhill Grounds, 85 Ravenhill Park, Belfast BT6 0DG. The ground has hosted some memorable fixtures particularly from the amateur era when Ulster played and beat Australia in 1983/4. Ulster were also the first Irish winners of the Heineken cup in 1998-9 they have since won the Celtic Cup in 2004 and the Celtic League in 2005-6.
Kit of Ulster
Ulster play their home games in strip comprising a white shirt, shorts and red socks. Ulster Rugby’s greatest moment in their white shirt was arguably in January 1999 when the side lifted the European Cup, defeating Colomiers 21-6 in the final at Lansdowne Road. A couple of well known names to pull on the shirt are; David Humphreys and Kevin Maggswith before the professional era Willie John McBride, Dr Syd Miller and Mike Gibson.
