The Barbarian Football Club, typically referred to as Barbarians and nicknamed the Baa-Baas, is an invitational rugby union team. The Barbarians played their first fixture in 1890 when a team of invited players went to the North of England on the 27th December and played against Hartlepool Rovers winning 9-4. The side is not restricted to British players and usually contains one uncapped up and coming player.

The Barbarians do not have a home venue, however they do play regular fixtures such as: Boxing Day against Leicester Tigers, Mobbs Memorial match, The Final Challenge a game played as the last match in a tour of the UK by Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. They also play match's against England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The colours of the Barbarians Shirts

The Barbarians play all their games in a strip of black and white hooped shirts, with black shorts and each player wears his own club socks. The shirt has been pulled on by most of the best known players from across the globe and to many to name here.

Barbarian History

The side has a proud history of playing fast flowing rugby and because of this the majority of games finish with high scores as invariably the opposition join the spectacle. Through this factor they have a mixed record of results but have beaten most of the top Nations at one time or another. With the professional era it was thought that the concept would die out, but whilst the players and clubs support the ethos it will continue.
