6 October – Civil Service V Basingstoke
Basingstoke travelled to Civil Service knowing that they must win if they were to get the season back on track. In good conditions, Basingstoke took the game to the home side and opened their account through a Nick Cooper penalty within the first 5 minutes. This was followed by a try to Karl Buttle, unconverted and then 2 further penalties to Nick Cooper taking Stoke to 14-3, following a penalty from the home side. The last 10 minutes of the first half saw the wheels come off and 2 tries to the home side, one converted saw them go into half time at 15-14.
The second half and Stoke got back into gear, with a penalty by Dave Jones on 5 minutes from the restart. 15-17. Basingstoke then had to withstand strong home side pressure, holding out till the 60th minute when Civil Service scored an unconverted try taking the score to 20-17. Basingstoke were not to be denied and ended the game strongly with scores to Simon Appleby, converted by David Jones and the last gasp try by Tim Richards giving Basingstoke the win and a final score of
