Good weekend for the Kiwi sides
Well with wins for all except the Chiefs it was another good weekend for New Zealand’s Super 14 franchises. As a Blues supporter it was great to see them weather the storm from the Chiefs, who came out firing on all cylinders but were eventually put to the sword. Troy Flavell missing through injury looked as though it could be important as the Chiefs racked up an early lead. As usual the Blues did not panic and slowly but surely took control up front. Keven Mealamu making a huge impact when he came on in the second half, made one and helped for another try as the Blues ran out 18-11 winners. The first half had seen the home side take and 11-0 lead before the Blues pegged it back to 11-8 thanks to a Jerome Kaino try and penalty from the boot of Isa Nacewa, his only successful kick of the night. The second half Blues other scorer was Doug Howlett who took his Super 14 total to 58 and the record. Chiefs scorers were Tasesa Lavea try and Stephen Donald 2 penalties.
